IF GOD EXISTS

If God Exists
- A Christian story

If God exists...then why is there so much suffering in the world?
Why are there so much hatred?
If God is, as you said, a loving God, why am I suffering?
Why do I have cancer?
Why am I so fearful?

Can't He stop all these and make everything right?

Are you struggling with any of these questions? If so, please read the Christian story below. It was sent to me by a friend and I think that it does in a way answers many of life questions.

We do not know who wrote If God Exists. The originator of this story 'If God Exists' said; "This is one of the best explanations of why God allows pain and suffering that I have seen."

If God Exists - The Story

A lady named Sheryl went to a beauty salon to have her hair cut and her nails painted and trimmed. As the beauty salon lady worked on her hair, they began to have a good conversation.

They talked about so many things and various subjects.

When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the beautician said, "I don't believe that God exists."

"Why do you say that?" asked Sheryl, who had MS.

"Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God exist, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things."

Then Sheryl thought for a moment, but didn't respond because she didn't want to start an argument.

When the beautician finished her job, Sheryl left the salon.

Just when she stepped out of the beauty salon's door, she saw a woman in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair. She looked dirty, unwashed and unkempt.

Sheryl turned back and entered the beauty salon again and said to the beautician, "You know what? Beauticians do not exist."

"How can you say that?" asked the surprised beautician. "I am here, and I am a beautician. And I just worked on you!"

"No!" Sheryl exclaimed. "Beauticians don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair, unwashed and unkempt, like that woman outside."

"Ah, but beauticians DO exist! What happens is, people do not come to me."

"Exactly", affirmed Sheryl. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! What happens is, people don't go to Him and do not look for Him. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world."

If God Exists - Then How Can I Know Him?

Psalms 107:10-22

There were those who dwelt in darkness and in the shadow of death,
Prisoners in misery and chains,
Because they had rebelled against the words of God
And spurned the counsel of the Most High.
Therefore He humbled their heart with labor;
They stumbled and there was none to help.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble;
He saved them out of their distresses.
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death
And broke their bands apart.

Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness,
And for His wonders to the sons of men!
For He has shattered gates of bronze
And cut bars of iron asunder.
Fools, because of their rebellious way,
And because of their iniquities, were afflicted.
Their soul abhorred all kinds of food,
And they drew near to the gates of death.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble;
He saved them out of their distresses.
He sent His word and healed them,
And delivered them from their destructions.

Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness,
And for His wonders to the sons of men!
Let them also offer sacrifices of thanksgiving,
And tell of His works with joyful singing.

God does exist. And He is concerned for the people He had created. Right from the beginning of creation, God has always been concerned for His people.

Actually, in our heart of hearts, we believe that God exist. In time of danger, we cried out to Him for help. So the question is not, 'If God exists...?' or 'Does God exist?' Instead of saying If God Exists, we should be asking 'How can I find God?' 'What does God want from me?' 'How can I know God?'

God said, "You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:13

Are you seeking for God? Is your life meaningless? If you are lost and confused - and want to know God, here is how you can find Him and know Him.

"God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" John 3:16

God loves you and even before you started to search for Him, He has already provided the way for you to know Him. He sent His son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross for us so that we might be reconciled to Him.

Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" John 14:6

Jesus is not the signboard that points us to God. He is the way to God. In fact, Jesus said that He is the only way to the Father. And He is also the truth and the life. If you are seeking for the truth, Jesus is the truth. If you are seeking for the true meaning in life, Jesus said that He is the eternal life. He said, "I came that they may have life, and have it more abundantly." John 10:10

This abundant life is a gift from God as a result of our faith in Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:8-10
So the way to God is through a personal faith in Jesus Christ. It is not enough to say that we believe that God exist. We need to accept Jesus Christ as our Saviour - that He died for us - that He purchased our salvation by shedding His blood to cleanse us of our sin. We need to surrender our life to Him and acknowledge Him as our Master and Lord. We must promise to turn from our sinful way and walk in the way that pleases Him, trusting Him to enpower us to do His will.

Jesus Christ promises eternal life to those who come to him; "Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed from death to life" John 5:24

Today you can come to God by surrendering your life and heart to Jesus Christ. John 1:12: "To all who received him (Jesus Christ), to those who believed in his name he gave the right to become children of God."

Wherever you are, you can pray this prayer:
"Dear God, I know that I have sinned against you. Please forgive me. I believe that you sent Jesus Christ to die for me. I also believe that He rose from the dead.
Dear Jesus, please come into my life today. Cleanse me with the blood you shed for me on the cross. I invite you to be my Lord and Saviour. Amen"

Welcome to the family of God. The moment you prayed the above prayer of salvation, you become a child of the living God.

From now on, you will no longer say 'If God exists', but will go forth and live to please God who said that He is the great I am.
