ANN TATLOCK REVIEW BLITZ

Promises to Keep is a contemporary fiction that tugs at the heart of your emotions as the story of a mother fleeing great danger to keep her children safe unfolds. It is also the story of two young girls who discover they have something in common that binds them together - a secret that requires "cross my heart and hope to die" pledge. It is also the story of a desperate father who desperately seeks to be reunited with his family.

Every child dreams of a family consisting of a father, mother and children. Eleven years old Roz Anthony's dream was no different - of her growing up under the protective care of her father, loving arms of her mother, the family living and loving together, of her parents growing old together and the family walking into the beautiful sunset together. But that wasn't to be!

Roz's mother, Janis, unable to cope with an abusive situation any longer flees to the quiet little town of Mills River, Illinois to be near her father. She longs to lead a normal life and wants her children to grow up as normally as possible. But the complexity of her past always made her fearful. And she was full of apprehension that her husband might find them.
Author Ann Tatlock

Set in the 1960's, the story is told in first person by Roz who befriends a black girl and they share their secrets and promise to pray for their fathers to become a part of their lives again. The story is captivating and keeps one glued to the very end.

Tillie Monroe, the sweet elderly woman, stubborn and persistent, makes the book lively and so refreshingly beautiful. Like an angel sent from heaven, Tillie, a previous owner of the house where Roz's family lives, enters their lives one fine day when they found her on their front porch reading the newspaper. Though her sons have sold the house and sent her to a facility for the aged, she is determined to die in the place she lived her life, and somehow manages to find her way "home" day after day. Feeling sympathy for the elderly woman, Roz's mother allows Tillie to move back in. As the story unfolds, one realizes the importance of her role in the story. How wonderful it would be if everyone should be so blessed as to have a "Tillie Monroe" drop unannounced into their life.

Promises to Keep will resonate long in the heart as it is a unique story by a very gifted story-teller. It is a story that will speak to the heart and soul.

Travelers Rest is the story of a young woman determined to honor her commitment, and she is engaged to an injured soldier who is convinced that life is no longer worth living. It is also the story of a retired doctor with a past who believes that it's too late to be forgiven.

Beautifully told, as only Ann Tatlock can, the book is a heart-warming story of the struggle within each of us and the purpose that God has for each and every human being - even when we believe we are beyond the point of redemption.

The world of Jane Morrow seems to hold so much promise. She was engaged to Seth Ballantine. Both of them were looking forward to a wonderful future. But when Seth returned home from duty, everything changed.

He was no longer the same Seth Ballantine who had kissed her good-bye a little less than a year ago. He was severely wounded, and what was left of him need constant medical attention. He was determined to keep Jane away from the hospital and see him in the condition that he was in. But Jane was equally determined, and pleads with him that everything will work out fine.

But nothing prepared her for what was in store. To her horror and dismay she found that Seth was in a far worse situation than she had earlier thought. Nagging questions started to haunt her. Could she love this man she hardly recognized?

By a quirk turn of fate Jane meets Dr. Truman Rockaway, a retired doctor and a man who saw action in Korea. Truman makes it his life mission to help injured soldiers adjust to their new condition, to make sense of a life they never expected to have and to help them in whatever way possible.

Travelers Rest follows the footsteps of Jane, Seth and Dr. Truman as they embark on a journey of hope and try to make sense of life when it doesn't. A truly inspiring story, beautifully written, the book tells you why God is not helpless even among the ruins.
